Bagel Wednesdays

The quest for cream cheese (not in order of deliciousness)

Wednesdays are known as Bagel Wednesdays in our house. It’s the day Dan makes homemade sourdough bagels. We still have (we haven’t cancelled yet!) a local milk/dairy delivery service and always got a super creamy, delicious cream cheese for our bagels. It was magical. We held out a little on switching to a dairy free cream cheese.

But the time came to try alternatives. We first ordered Wild Creamery in our Imperfect Produce order. This one had a very strange taste/after taste – sauerkraut-y?! It did not taste like cream cheese. It was a hard no – I had to gag down the bagel. Can’t waste a good bagel.

We then tried Miyokos and Tofutti. I used to buy Tofutti at Trader Joe’s when they sold non-TJs products years ago. Tofutti is my fav so far. Miyokos was ok – I don’t remember much about it actually other than I preferred Tofutti.

We then ran out of cream cheese so Dan picked up Violife at Albertson’s – it tasted ok, but it melts like butter. Not quite what we wanted and wouldn’t buy again.

Then we got the Trader Joe’s vegan cream cheese. This is P and Dan’s favorite. It’s my second so far, still behind Tofutti, but I’d eat it and not complain.

Lastly, we tried Kite Hill as it has been recommended by quite a few people. This one also wasn’t bad, but not quite the cream cheese taste we were used to. Maybe came in at a solid 3rd place.

Julie’s top 3 cream cheeses: Tofutti, Trader Joe’s Vegan, Kite Hill.

Are there any we’ve missed and need to try? Want to come for bagels on a Wednesday morning and taste test with us? Let me know!
